Supporting the artists who support us

2021-09-02

Art makes life better - it gives us a voice, a sense of place, collective identity and culture. It gives our lives meaning.

“As a writer, I know first-hand that the arts are perpetually underfunded and over-relied upon. Especially during the pandemic, we have realised how important the arts sector is to our wellbeing.

“With many Canberra artists being unable to access Federal Government support, it’s crucial that the ACT Government steps up and throws a lifeline to the incredibly talented creatives in our city.

“The ACT Greens took a comprehensive arts package to the territory election and we negotiated many of these commitments into the Labor-Greens Parliamentary and Governing Agreement, such as additional funding in Homefront Grants for local artists.

“I’m delighted to see Minister Cheyne’s announcement this week that a further $350,000 in Homefront Grants is available for Canberra’s creatives.

“ACT Homefront Grants complement Federal Government Covid support and ACT Government business support.”

Ms Clay has put together a series of five explainer images to help Canberra artists navigate the different types of support and funding available. The images will be shared on https://www.facebook.com/joclayginninderra and https://www.instagram.com/jo_clay_mla/

“Please get in touch with me if you need assistance, or to give feedback on how these measures are working for you in our arts sector, by emailing clay@parliament.act.gov.au.”
