First making her mark as an activist for the Wilderness Society, Lucy Horodny entered politics in 1995 when she won a seat in the ACT’s Legislative Assembly at the territory election that year.
During her term in the Assembly, Lucy was a strong voice for the environment, particularly for the preservation of the Black Mountain area (which had been threatened by an extension to Gungahlin Drive) and protecting the Tarkine/takayna from logging and development. She also advocated strongly for the passing of voluntary euthanasia legislation in the ACT, which narrowly failed.
In 1997, Lucy took a year’s leave and announced she would not contest the next territory election.
