Everything we have achieved and will achieve is powered by people just like yourself. We want to make sure that you are supported and respected while volunteering with us.
Our Volunteer Policy applies to everyone involved in the ACT Greens.
Our aim is to ensure all volunteers have a positive experience, and are:
- supported and inspired by clear guidance and leadership
- excited to participate in field campaigning, events and other actions
- assisted to learn skills that allow them to participate in new types of campaigning
- given access to the information they need to perform their role(s)
- able to make a difference through positive interactions with voters
- part of a movement committed to courageous, systemic political change
- happy to have made new friends and been part of a network of like-minded people.
Volunteers should not feel:
- pressured to participate in anything they are not comfortable with
- overworked, ‘burnt-out’ or overwhelmed by responsibilities
- like they’ve been manipulative or misleading in how they speak with voters
- that they are an insignificant cog in a giant political machine
- pressured to socialise or cross any personal boundaries.
Orientation
All volunteers will be offered appropriate information and training to undertake their roles. Successful completion of this training will be a condition of carrying out these roles.
All volunteers will be required to sign the Volunteer Code of Conduct Agreement or complete the online version.
Commitment to safety and wellbeing
The ACT Greens are committed to providing volunteers and employees with a safe, healthy and welcoming workplace, whether it be in the office or in the field.
Our aim is that volunteers and employees always feel comfortable in discussing their health and safety concerns with Wellbeing Officers, staff, office bearers, and other volunteers.
For details about our Wellbeing Officers, incident reporting, smoking policy, Assistance Program, and related initiatives, please visit our Safety & Wellbeing page.
Reimbursement
Volunteers will be reimbursed for all pre-approved expenditure incurred in undertaking their roles.
Code of Conduct
Volunteers and employees have the right to a safe, healthy, and welcoming workplace, and access to policies, services and training to help keep them safe. They also have responsibilities for their own safety and for the safety of others.
These rights and responsibilities are detailed in the Volunteer Code of Conduct Agreement. All volunteers are required to sign this Agreement before starting work.
Ending a volunteer position
Volunteers have the right to leave their role but should give as much notice as possible.
All volunteers must adhere to ACT Greens policies and the Volunteer Code of Conduct, and may face disciplinary action or dismissal if they fail to do so.
The ACT Greens can decide to terminate a volunteer’s position for just cause, i.e. gross misconduct. Dismissal in other circumstances will be a last resort after other attempts or approaches have failed.
