Victoria needs to end greyhound racing

An estimated 17,000 healthy greyhounds are killed in Australia each year – and now Daniel Andrews thinks he can win votes by continuing the races.

Greyhound racing is responsible for the needless killing of hundreds of dogs in Victoria each year. Many more sustain serious injuries on the track such as broken hocks or legs, head trauma or cardiac arrest.

Victoria is one of the only jurisdictions where greyhound racing is still legal. Most other countries and states have acknowledged the inherent cruelty of greyhound racing and banned it altogether. It’s time for Victoria to do the same.

The Greens are calling on the Victorian Government to:

  • Amend the Racing Act 1958 to ban greyhound racing as soon as possible;
  • Create a welfare plan for the future of greyhounds currently housed in the industry;
  • Implement a just plan for trainers and other workers to transition to other employment.

Greyhound racing has no place in our state. Please listen to the concerns of experts and the general community and end greyhound racing in Victoria. Add your name today.
