Rents are rising four times faster than wages and too many people are locked out of owning a home of their own.
Meanwhile, the Labor Government has given property developers tax breaks and special deals, handing them huge profits.
Earlier this year Labor scrapped its plan to make property developers pay for more affordable housing, caving to pressure from the industry, and has sold off public housing to developers.
Labor takes donations from big property developers. The Greens don't.
To tackle the housing crisis, we need to end the special treatment for big property developers.
The Greens' plan to make housing affordable will:
- End out-of-control rent rises
- Make big property developers pay their fair share for more affordable homes
- Ban political donations from property developers
Victoria needs a housing system that puts people before profit.
