Rents are rising four times faster than wages and too many people are locked out of owning a home of their own.
Meanwhile, the Labor Government has given property developers tax breaks and special deals, handing them huge profits.
Labor scrapped its plan to make property developers pay for more affordable housing, caving to pressure from the industry, and has sold off public housing to developers. Labor takes donations from big property developers. The Greens don't.
The Greens have a plan to fix the housing crisis:
- Freeze on rent increases for 2 years, followed by ongoing rent caps
- Build 100,00 new public homes
- Make property developers build their fair share of public and affordable homes
Victoria needs a housing system that puts people before profit.
