With Victoria in lockdown once again, renters are again struggling with reduced income and lost work, and are in desperate need of support.
But the Victorian Government has failed to introduce any protections or financial support for renters experiencing hardship, putting renters at risk of eviction.
Without any financial support to help cover rents, or protections against evictions and rent increases, renters are once again accumulating significant rent debt, and at risk of losing their homes.
Everybody should have a safe place to call home. And no one should have to make an impossible choice between buying food or paying rent.
That's why we're calling on the Victorian Labor Government to urgently:
✅ Reintroduce the moratorium on evictions and rent increases
✅ Extend rent relief grants
✅ Waive all rental debt accrued by renters impacted during COVID
In 2020, we made sure everyone had a roof over their heads and supported renters during lockdown. We can and must do the same again.
We won't let the Victorian Labor Government abandon its duty to protect renters.
