Victoria Cares is a jobs initiative dedicated to creating over 20,000 well-paid, secure jobs for frontline workers in health, education and community services.
The COVID-19 pandemic has shown that Victoria cares. Frontline workers like nurses, teachers, early childhood educators, disability and aged carers, and mental health workers have been looking after Victorians through the crisis. The true value of caring work as essential services is now finally being recognised.
But care workers, who are mostly women, are often poorly paid and in insecure work. Services are also often underfunded and stretched thin, making it hard for people to get the best possible care when they need it.
With more people than ever needing help and support, now is the time to invest in the caring economy.
Victoria Cares would assist with Victoria’s economic recovery and help ensure that everyone in our communities can get the care they need.
Examples of what jobs Victoria Cares could fund:
🏥 Mental health
More jobs for nurses, psychiatrists, social workers and more to expand community mental health services.
🏥 Justice for First Nations People
Increased investment for Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations to support indigenous health, mental health, family violence, housing and out of home care.
🏥 Disability care
Employing more people in the disability workforce, including to increase services for people who cannot access NDIS-funded services.
🦷 Dental Care
Employing more dentists, dental nurses and oral health therapists to ensure more Victorians have access to public dental services.
🏥 Drug and Alcohol Services
More jobs for drug and alcohol workers to expand access to addiction rehabilitation.
Employing more teachers, specialists and support staff to better support disadvantaged students and students living with a disability.
🏘️ Housing and Homelessness
