WHO WE ARE

ANASINA GRAY-BARBERIO is the new Victorian Greens member of the State Parliament’s Legislative Council, representing the Northern Metropolitan region (replacing Samantha Ratnam).

Anasina is a proud Pasefika woman, who is a passionate advocate for diverse communities in the northern suburbs who are being hit particularly hard by the housing, cost of living and climate crises.

Her new office team will support her in this mission!

Anasina is looking to build an enthusiastic, passionate, positive-minded and outcome-focussed electorate office team, that reflects the diversity of the Northern Metropolitan community it represents.

THE ROLE: CONSTITUENT SUPPORT / COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT ADVISOR

  • Engaging with individual constituents in the electorate: responding to emails and calls to Anasina’s office; meetings with constituents; and providing direct assistance, advocacy, and referrals to help them resolve their issues (e.g. public housing, education, health, planning, transport).
  • Managing Anasina’s calendar, meetings and appointments - working with Anasina to prioritise commitments.
  • Identifying (mapping), engaging and building relationships with key local groups in the constituency: schools, residents groups, multicultural groups, sporting clubs etc.
  • Identifying local concerns and issues, and working with the community on local advocacy campaigns to fix these issues e.g. funding for local schools, bicycle infrastructure, pedestrian safety and accessibility for people with disabilities. This may include helping organise events, writing and designing leaflets, petitions, web pages, arranging departmental/stakeholder briefings, writing questions for parliament, and more.
  • Developing ‘community outreach’ strategy: actions to proactively engage Anasina’s office with politically disenfranchised and disadvantaged groups to provide support and advocacy.
  • Writing to, and arranging regular meetings with key stakeholders on local issues such as government ministers offices, local council representatives, and police.
  • Attending local events with the MP.
  • Working with other Greens MPs’ offices at the state, federal and local levels to ensure constituents are referred to the right level of government to receive assistance on their matter.
  • Providing feedback to Anasina and other team members on areas of major or systemic constituent concern e.g. issues that should be raised in parliament, raised with social and traditional media.
  • Occasionally supporting volunteers and interns.
  • Supporting communications and policy staff as appropriate (e.g. writing short parliamentary speeches, social media posts, website content etc).
