THE ROLE
Victorian Greens are seeking an experienced and motivated campaigner to be a part of a small but dynamic team helping to drive the work of the Victorian Greens from now until the end of 2026.
The Victorian Greens have seven MPs in the Victorian Parliament and have shared balance of power in the upper house, offering exciting opportunities to drive the political agenda in Victoria and secure real outcomes for Victorians and the issues we care about, like climate, housing and social justice.
You’ll be part of a small, nimble and high-achieving team - and your role will provide key strategic leadership in the areas of issue campaigning and field organising. You’ll support our MPs, staff and volunteers to make plans, execute campaign and organising tactics, run events, and make sure that different parts of the organisation are well coordinated and communicating effectively with each other.
You’ll hold a senior role in our organisation, and work across all parts of the Victorian Greens - from our MPs and Leader’s office, to our State Office, and directly with our grassroots volunteers and campaigners.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Help develop strategy for our organising and campaigning work in key geographic areas.
- Support our MPs, their staff and volunteers to make plans, execute organising tactics, and run events. Spot opportunities for tactics or interventions that can strengthen our key campaigns and execute them quickly, including providing support for event management.
- Provide training and support for staff and volunteers in key field organising skills
- Report on our field organising efforts and make recommendations for political strategy
- Make sure campaigning work across the Greens is well-coordinated, strategic and that different parts of the organisation are communicating well with each other, including facilitating meetings, and working with volunteer-led groups and staff-led groups.
- Produce the materials and resources necessary to support offline campaigning activity.
SELECTION CRITERIA
- Experience in achieving successful campaigning outcomes in a political setting, with a demonstrated high level of political nous and strategic thinking. Political experience is desirable but not strictly necessary. Experience managing a local or field campaign in an election context will be highly regarded.
- Experience with managing people and building collaborative teams - including coordinating groups of people towards a shared goal and building a positive team culture.
- Highly developed written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to ‘manage up’ and the ability to say no, and manage competing priorities.
- Experience working on issues-based or political organising, including the creation and distribution of printed materials and event management, and a sound understanding of and experience in the role of community organising and field organising in achieving political change.
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and work to tight deadlines in a fast-paced and complex environment - and the self-awareness and ability to manage your own time and energy effectively.
- Experience in the use of Adobe Creative Suite or Canva and with copy-writing is desirable but not essential.
- Demonstrated commitment to Australian Greens' policies, and commitment to the Australian Greens' Principles and Charter.
