Free pass for racing industry a 'kick in the guts' for Victorians

2020-10-20

The Victorian Greens have criticised the Andrews Labor Government for allowing 1,000 racehorse-owners and their ‘connections’ to attend the Cox Plate this weekend.

Acting Leader of the Victorian Greens, Ellen Sandell, said it was a kick in the guts to Victorians who have spent months unable to see family, go to funerals, have visitors at the hospital or open their businesses.

Quotes attributable to Acting Leader of the Victorian Greens, Ellen Sandell MP:

“The Greens have always supported a health-led response to this pandemic, but this is a really poor decision by Dan Andrews.

“It’s a real kick in the guts to Victorians who have done an amazing job and lived with nearly four months of harsh restrictions, unable to see their family and friends, while wealthy race-horse owners are given this special exemption.

“It seems to be one rule for them, and another rule for the rest of Victoria.”
