Greens announce candidate for Werribee

The Victorian Greens are thrilled to announce Rifai A. Raheem as their candidate for the upcoming Werribee by-election, putting cost of living, housing affordability and climate at the top of the agenda.

Rifai A. Raheem has deep connections to the local community as the President and Secretary of many local community organisations, such as the Werribee Islamic Centre, an active member of the union movement, and through his work in community services in the area for over 15 years.

As part of his campaign in Werribee, Mr Raheem will be centring on the cost of living and improving transport, including calling for 50 cent public transport fares to directly put money back into the pockets of people in the local community.

Mr Raheem also wants to see more affordable housing, a safer climate and better local services in Werribee and across Victoria.

He is calling for a cap and freeze on rent increases, no more coal and gas, and to increase funding to improve capacity at Werribee Mercy Hospital.

Quotes attributable to Acting Leader of the Victorian Greens, Dr Sarah Mansfield:
