Another train signal failure shows need for upgrade

Greens transport spokesperson Samantha Dunn says Melbourne's train signals need to be upgraded from the 19th century to the 21st, after trains were cancelled again this morning due to signal faults.

“A modern economy is only going to flourish if our cities work efficiently. That only happens if our public transport is fast and reliable,” Samantha Dunn said.

“In Parliament, we asked the Transport Minister for details of the signalling 'trial' on the Sandringham line. She refused to answer.

“Dozens of the world's cities are upgrading their train control from physical signal based to computer and radio based,” she said.
