Auditor finds no evidence PSOs improve safety

2016-02-24

Greens transport spokeperson Samantha Dunn says the latest Auditor General report has found no evidence that PSOs improve safety at railway stations.

"We should redeploy PSOs to the times and places where crimes occur,” Samantha Dunn said.

"Most crimes on the train system happen during the day, but PSOs primarily work at night.

“Regular station staff could help people with ticketing and manage the day-to-day running of the stations.

“We should have a look and see whether there is a better way to reduce crime using our existing police resources,” she said.
