Australian Greens statement on the death of John Kaye MP

2016-05-03

The Australian Greens are deeply saddened by the death of our colleague and friend John Kaye.

Our hearts go out to his partner, Lynne, and his family at this time of deep loss.

It was only three months ago that John stepped back from his duties in the NSW Parliament to undergo treatment for his aggressive illness.

"We are very saddened by this news. John's loss will be felt deeply by Greens members and supporters across the country who held an enormous amount of respect for his work, particularly in education and renewable energy," said Australian Greens Leader Richard Di Natale.

"We will all miss his energy, passion and commitment to social justice and sustainability. His contribution to the Greens over many years has been invaluable and his passing will be greatly felt by the Party, our members and the wider community," Senator Di Natale said.

Greens NSW Senator Lee Rhiannon said, "John's death is a blow for the Greens and the broader progressive movement.

"The depth of his commitment to public education, climate action and strengthening democracy was reflected in his tireless work. His strong policy work and ability to turn political analysis into broad based campaigns was outstanding."
