Greens welcome aspects of the City of Maribyrnong resolution on the Western Distributor, but call for stronger action.
“The community and the Local Council are united on the key elements required to reduce the negative impacts and provide positive benefits to the residents of Maribyrnong,” said Greens MP Colleen Hartland.
“Container truck bans on all local streets and parkland protection are amongst the essential elements for this project to get the support of the local community.”
“While the Council supports the road in-principle, if truck bans and parkland protection are not part of the final design, I hope they will take a harder line for the community’s sake.”
“It’s outrageous that the Andrews Government’s has failed to commit to these basic asks. I fear that the consultation is more about averting outrage, rather than actually refining the design,” said Ms Hartland.
