East West still an ex-toll road proposal
The Greens have reiterated the wishes of Victorians to see improved public transport and no East West toll road, following reports on the release of an Infrastructure Australia report listing “high priority” infrastructure projects.
"Tony Abbott dubbed the last Victorian election 'a referendum on the East West Link' and the toll road received a clear thumbs down," said Victorian Senator Janet Rice, Australian Greens spokesperson for transport and infrastructure.
"Victorians sent a clear message to prioritise public transport projects to give people the choice of public transport which meets their needs and to make space on our roads for vehicles which need them most."
The IA report comes in the wake of Senate estimates revelations that only one Victorian project had been submitted to the federal body for assessment, with the Melbourne Metro Rail nowhere to be seen.
"The Infrastructure Australia report lists Melbourne Metro Rail as high priority, so let's get on with this congestion-busting project," said Senator Rice.
