Finally, action on Wicked Campers?

2016-12-02

Wicked Campers exploit a loophole in the Advertising Standards to advertise using sexist, racist and homophobic slogans and on Monday, we might finally see them off our streets.

The Greens have been campaigning against Wicked Campers since early 2014 and we are finally close to seeing real change.

In July 2014 the Senate backed Larissa Waters motion to against these hateful slogans and I have written to the Minister, spoken in Parliament, garnered thousands of petition signatures and facilitated hundreds of concerned residents to lobby the Minister to ban this hateful advertising.

On Monday, the Government will announce their Gender Equality Strategy which the Minister has promised will include action on Wicked Campers. I am optimistic that after almost three years of Greens campaigning we will finally have action on Wicked Campers.

Quotes attributable to Ms Springle

“If the Minister does not act or her proposed plan is too weak I will introduce legislation to take Wicked Campers off our roads!

“Tireless supporters and campaigners have put this issue front and centre in Victoria’s debate about gender equality and hopefully on Monday Victoria will finally act."

“I am optimistic and look forward to seeing Wicked Campers off our streets”
