Forest task force recommits to log native forests

Greens forests spokesperson Samantha Dunn says it’s disappointing that the forest industry task force has committed to continue to source timber from the critically endangered Leadbeater’s Possum habitat.

“It’s extremely disappointing to see that native forests will continue to be logged,” Samantha Dunn said.

“The task force’s first job should be to defer logging across the remaining Leadbeater’s Possum habitat.

“It time for the Government to get on with the job of transitioning away from native forest logging and focus on plantations.

“It's become clear that the Government is confused about how many jobs actually exist in the native forest timber industry. Hopefully the task force can establish the truth,” she said.
