Victorian Greens leader Greg Barber says the Auditor General has pointed to the government’s lack of a plan for greening our electricity supply.
"Electricity users want to have power over their bills and incentive to be energy efficient. The way smart meters are run, the company gets the benefits but the environment and consumers miss out," Greg Barber said.
“This was supposed to help people save energy in the home. It just shows the government doesn’t have a plan to save energy and the environment.
“The smart meter program was mismanaged. The public have paid $2.2 billion for it, but the savings have gone to the power companies, mainly because they got to sack the meter readers," he said.
