Greens justice spokesperson Sue Pennicuik says the government should repeal baseline sentencing because it’s not needed and is unworkable.
“Judges of the Appeal Court have said the defect in the legislation is incurable,” Sue Pennicuik said.
“The courts don’t need baseline sentencing. The Government could better assist the courts by repealing baseline sentencing immediately.
“The Greens have no problem with the Sentencing Advisory Council providing advice on sentencing generally, but the urgent need here is to repeal the baseline sentencing regime.
