Greens amendment for same-sex relationship ceremonies

2015-11-12

Victorian Greens LGBTI Equality spokesperson Sam Hibbins MP has moved an amendment to the Relationships Amendment Bill 2015 that would allow for a ceremony to be conducted in conjunction with the registering of a relationships.

“Currently registering a relationship only involves filling out the right paperwork, this amendment would give couples the option of having ceremony as part of the registration," Sam Hibbins said.

“This is a modest, reasonable and welcome change in lieu of achieving marriage equality at the federal level.

“It would allow for same-sex couples to hold a ceremony at the Victorian Marriage Registry the same venue I held my own wedding," he said.
