Greens announce commitment to South Yarra station
The Greens have announced a $20 million commitment for infrastructure upgrades to South Yarra Station and planning for a Melbourne Metro Rail interchange at South Yarra.
“South Yarra is a fast growing residential and commercial hub but the public transport infrastructure is not keeping up,” said the Australian Greens transport spokesperson Senator Janet Rice.
“Melbourne Metro is a game-changing project. It would be a missed opportunity to leave out a South Yarra interchange from the project.
“The Greens are taking action to support the local community by backing up our words with a federal commitment to South Yarra station.”
The announcement is part of a dedicated public transport package of $10 billion over four years, to prioritise the public transport that Australians need to fix traffic congestion, reduce pollution and make our cities and towns healthy and liveable.
“While the old parties are addicted to expensive, polluting toll roads, the Greens are implementing our vision for cleaner, cheaper and faster transport options.
“The Greens public transport commitment takes us towards a clean transport future,” said Senator Rice.
