GREENS CALL FOR BETTER BUSES AND TRAINS INSTEAD OF A WIDER MONASH

Better buses and trains, not a wider Monash Freeway: Greens

Greens MP Nina Springle says better public transport is the most effective way to reduce congestion on roads across the South-East.

“Building new toll roads and adding lanes to existing freeways will put more cars on the road and make congestion worse,” Nina Springle said.

“The Monash keeps growing wider, but traffic isn’t getting better. That’s because new lanes fill up with extra cars and take us back to square one.

“The only way to reduce congestion is by giving people alternatives to their car. The South-East is currently starved of public transport options, which is why we need better buses and a rail line to Rowville.

“A rail line to Rowville would take an entire lane of traffic off the Monash Freeway. The State Government needs to abandon its toll road fantasy and get serious about mass transit,” she said.
