Greens call on government to regulate Uber

2016-06-09

Greens transport spokesperson Samantha Dunn says the Victorian Government, Opposition and Sex Party just voted together to make ride-sharing services like Uber illegal.

"The Government just raced a bill through the Victoria parliament to make Uber illegal again. We opposed it. The Opposition and the Sex Party supported it,” Samantha Dunn said.

"We want to see ride sourcing services like Uber be legal and regulated.

"It’s time for the Government to get on board and legalise Uber, like other states are doing.

"While the Victorian Government dithers, last year the ACT Greens-Labor Government led the way and successfully regulated Uber. New South Wales, Western Australia and Tasmania have since announced that they will also make the ride sharing service legal.

“The Victorian Government should stop wasting time and introduce regulations which protect passengers and drivers. They would have our support if they did,” she said.
