Greens call on Premier to remove discrimination against LGBTI students

2016-07-25

Victorian Greens leader Greg Barber has called on Premier Andrews to support the Greens bill to remove discrimination against LGBTI children from the Equal Opportunity Act.

Currently religious schools have the right to discriminate against same-sex attracted and transgender students. Such discrimination could take the form of expulsion or refusal to enrol.

“Dan Andrews talks tough when it’s Malcolm Turnbull, but he won’t take on his own party room when it’s Victoria’s laws that need changing,” Greg Barber said.

“Our bill is before the parliament. It’s time to walk the talk,” he said.
