Greens poll strongly in South-West by-elections

Victorian Greens leader Greg Barber said he was delighted with the result in the byelections in South-West Victoria held today.

"Who said the Greens are just a city based party? We've boosted our vote significantly in Polwarth, and slipped only slightly in South West, where everyone and their dog was on the ballot,” Greg Barber said.

"Everywhere that gas drilling is an issue, you'll see the Green vote holding up well. Failure by Labor and Liberal to boost train services put that issue front and centre.

“This is a good omen for the growing Green vote, particularly in regional Victoria, that we see at local and federal elections in the next 12 months,” he said.
