Greens western suburbs MP Colleen Hartland says the government needs to commit to a metro train service to Melton if it wants to build more new suburbs in the west.
“The Ballarat V/Line service is already full, so this new suburb in Mt Atkinson will be a nightmare for people who catch the train,” she said.
“All the V/Line stations from Ardeer to Melton should be on a metro train line. The government urgently needs to commit to a timeline to make it happen.”
“It’s not good enough that people in highly urbanised suburbs are still forced to catch country trains, and it’s not fair for the country passengers who have to deal with the suburban overcrowding.”
“We’re in a crazy situation where you can get a metro train to places like Belgrave and Frankston, but you have to get a country train to Deer Park.”
“It’s just a classic example of successive governments ignoring the west, and forcing people out here to put up with sub-standard services.”
