Greens slam pokies playground expansion

2016-04-21

The Greens have slammed the Gambling Regulator decision to allow 10 more pokies machines at Langwarrin Hotel becuase they are installing a children's playground.

“Pubs shouldn’t encourage gamblers to bring children when they play pokies. These machines are highly addictive and can create negative life-long habits for children exposed,” said Greens Spoksperson on Gambling, Colleen Hartland.

“This decision shows that the gambling regulator is designed to rubber stamp the industry, not protect the community.”

“Local Councils should be given the power to reject new pokies applications. Minister Garrett and the Gambling Regulator have proven themselves unfit for the job,” said Ms Hartland.
