The Greens have urged Premier Daniel Andrews to mark Responsible Gambling Awareness Week by quitting his irresponsible pokies addiction.
“If the Premier wants to promote responsible gambling, he should start with the policies of his own government,” said Colleen Hartland, Victorian Greens Spokesperson for Gambling.
“There is nothing responsible about allowing ordinary people to lose $1000 per hour on the pokies. There is nothing responsible about deceiving people with these addiction machines, when they’re rigged so they have absolutely no chance of winning in the long run.”
“Victorians lost $2.6 billion on the pokies last year, yet the Premier refuses to take on board sensible, proven measures to rein in huge losses, such as $1 bet limits and mandatory pre-commitment.”
“It’s a slap in the face for Victorian communities to see the Labor Government promote gambling education in schools, when the real solution to the worst problem gambling lies in the government itself.”
“If Premier Andrews really cared about the impact of gambling in our community, he would listen to the community and take serious action on pokies reform.”
