The Victorian Greens are calling on the Victorian Labor government to urgently fix dangerous intersections across Melbourne following the coroner’s report into the death of Angus Collins revealing that Labor and developers ignored multiple safety warnings about the intersection where the young cyclist was killed.
The Victorian Greens say that there are still a number of deadly intersections across Melbourne where trucks and cars are put on a dangerous collision course with bikes by giving them green lights at the same time.
There are also still several dangerous intersections on the Footscray and Dynon Road corridors in the area where Angus Collins was killed that the community is urging Labor to fix.
The Leader for the Victorian Greens said that the coroner’s report must be a wake up call for Labor to urgently fix dangerous intersections which put cyclists at risk of death.
Quotes attributable to Leader of the Victorian Greens, Ellen Sandell:
“It’s heartbreaking and infuriating that the Labor Government and their agencies ignored warnings that could’ve saved Angus’ life.”
“This coroner’s report must be a wake-up call for the Labor State Government - they must immediately fix the remaining dangerous intersections on the Dynon and Footscray road corridors, and also audit all intersections across Melbourne where trucks and bikes have green lights at the same time, putting them on a dangerous collision course.”
“In Australia a cyclist is killed every nine days, it is clear this situation is beyond urgent and Labor must now listen and do more to prevent any more deaths.”
