Malcolm Turnbull: Pretender in Paris, but clean energy slasher at home

2015-12-01

Greens Energy spokesperson Adam Bandt MP said today that while Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has committed to double clean energy research and development in Paris, his government is set to slash over $23 billion of public investment, and much more in private investment, in clean energy by sticking with their plans to abolish the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) and the Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC).
“When it comes to solar power and clean energy, Malcolm Turnbull is a pretender in Paris and a slasher at home,” Mr Bandt said.
“The government still has a plan to rip over $23 billion of investment in world-leading clean energy projects and research and development right here in Australia.”

“In Paris, he says we’ll double our spending, but at home, we’re about to lose over $14 billion from the Australia Renewable Energy Agency and around $9 billion from the Clean Energy Finance Corporation.”
“Abolishing ARENA and the CEFC would see much more than $23 billion lost from clean energy in this country as for every dollar they invest, they leverage many more in private investment.”
“If the Prime Minister is serious about supporting solar power and clean energy, then he’ll double the funding for ARENA and the CEFC.”
