Greens call for commitment to the Melton rail line electrification and duplication, after Infrastructure Australia identifies it as a ‘priority’ project.
“According to Infrastructure Australia, the Melton rail line upgrade should be amongst the next cabs off the rank, in terms of infrastructure investment,” said Colleen Hartland, Greens MP for the Western Suburbs.
“That’s why I’m calling for the Labor Government to commit to it and to set a timeline for action, so the community has some certainty.”
“The population is growing at an enormous rate and people need to know that services will improve in the coming years, not in 15 or 20 years time.”
“The service on the line has got worse, not better in recent years. But with proper investment in more train carriages and the Melton rail line upgrade, things would improve dramatically," said Ms Hartland.
