Morrison should stop backing fossil fuels & transition economy to industries of the future

2016-02-17

Responding to Treasurer Scott Morrison’s National Press Club Address ‘Backing Australians in our Transitioning Economy’, Greens Treasury spokesperson Adam Bandt MP called on the Treasurer to stop backing fossil fuels and instead invest in creating jobs and growth by transitioning our economy to the industries of the future, like clean energy, science, research and innovation.
“Treasurer Scott Morrison talks about creating jobs and growth in our transitioning economy, yet he still spends billions of dollars each year backing the industries of the past, like by making it cheaper for Gina Rinehart and big miners to buy cheaper diesel,” Mr Bandt said.
“To really create jobs and growth, Scott Morrison should stop backing the industries of the past, like fossil fuels and mining, and instead invest in the jobs-rich industries of the future, like clean energy, science, research and innovation.”

“Simply ending the diesel fuel rebate for big miners would bring in $16.1 billion over four years.”
