PILL TESTING IS LONG OVERDUE, THE NEW PREMIER MUST ENSURE NO MORE DELAYS

2024-06-16

The Victorian Greens call on the Labor government to fast track pill testing which is already long overdue, following leaked reports that Labor is preparing to unwind its previous opposition to the service, which was long-opposed by Dan Andrews.

The Greens have responded to leaked reports in The Age that allege the new Premier supports a year-long pill testing trial and that a proposal is headed to cabinet, saying that there should be no more delays from Labor to introducing pill testing that will help keep young people safe.

Victorian Greens drug harm reduction spokesperson, Aiv Puglielli, said that pill testing in Victoria is long overdue and that the new Premier must convince her Labor cabinet to introduce pill testing, or more young lives will be at risk.

Quotes attributable to Victorian Greens drug harm reduction spokesperson, Aiv Puglielli:

“The new Premier needs to draw a line in the sand and convince her cabinet to get on with pill testing as a matter of urgency if she’s serious about protecting young lives.

“The expert advice and evidence is endless, pill testing works and it’s already long overdue in Victoria.

“If this is finally going to cabinet, the new Premier must convince her government to move forward with pill testing, and fast. The more this is delayed, the more young lives are at risk.

“There’s no reason that Labor can’t move forward with this already - they’ve delayed and obfuscated for far too long - just test the damn pills!”
