Renewables jobs boom in spite of Turnbull's war on renewables: Bandt

Greens climate change and energy spokesperson Adam Bandt MP today welcomed ABS data showing a 33% surge in employment from renewable energy in Australia, noting these gains were achieved despite the government’s war on renewable energy.

“Renewable energy is a jobs-rich industry and these latest figures prove it,” said Mr Bandt.

“These figures are just the beginning of what we could achieve if we embraced a clean energy future. There is enormous potential for generating employment in renewable energy.

“But, instead of riding the investment and jobs boom, the National Energy Guarantee will recreate Tony Abbott’s investment freeze by strangling growth in renewables.

“The NEG will take us back to the dark ages, where Labor and Liberal worked together to cut the Renewable Energy Target, short-circuiting investment, confidence and jobs in the sector.

“The NEG is worse than doing nothing. Instead of creating jobs in renewables it will destroy them.”
