Ride sharing here to stay

2016-03-08

The Greens know that disruptive technologies are part of our future.

Often legislation and/or regulation doesn't keep pace with the new economy.

The Greens spokesperson for Transport, Samantha Dunn MP has raised this issue in Parliament, calling on the government to get on with legalising ride sharing service Uber.

While the Victorian Government dithers, last year the ACT Greens-Labor Government led the way and successfully regulated Uber. New South Wales, Western Australia and Tasmania have since announced that they will also make the ride sharing service legal.

It’s time for the Victorian Government to stop wasting time and introduce regulations that protect passengers and drivers.

When and if a  bill comes before the parliament The Greens will evaluate it to ensure that includes appropriate protections for consumers and drivers.
