Solar customers to lose out under Labor and Liberal plans

2016-11-23

Greens energy spokesperson Ellen Sandell says solar customers are set for higher power bills, regardless of whether the Victorian Government’s feed-in tariff legislation passes.

“Solar households are in for a nasty shock next year, whether this bill passes or not,” Ellen Sandell said.

“Labor wants to cut the solar feed-in tariff paid to 80,000 Victorians from 25 cents per kilowatt hour to seven cents. The Liberals want to cut this payment to five cents per kilowatt hour.

“The average solar household with a 2.5kW system currently earns $300 per year for the power they feed into the grid. That will drop to $75 at the beginning of next year under the Liberal’s preferred tariff, or around $90 under Labor’s tariff plan.

"Why are Labor and Liberal cutting solar incentives, rather than encouraging people to reduce emissions through solar?” Ellen Sandell said.
