V/line Grand Final holiday timetable will hurt regions

2015-09-23

Victorian Greens leader Greg Barber says the decision to run less V/line trains and buses on the Grand Final public holiday will make it harder for people to travel to regional Victoria.

“Long weekends are an asset for regional economies as people get out of the city,” Greg Barber said.

"We’re letting ourselves down if we don’t provide quality public transport to facilitate travel across Victoria.

“We need to encourage people to use V/line trains and buses, rather than making it harder by running a skeleton service.

“Trains are five times safer than cars. The single biggest way to reduce the road toll is by getting people off the road and onto trains, particularly in country areas," he said.
