Youth justice minister should heed no-confidence motion

Greens MP Nina Springle says the youth justice minister should heed the no-confidence motion passed by parliament's upper house and start putting the best interests of children before petty tough-on-crime posturing.

“The Greens cannot express confidence in this Minister while she breaks the law and violates the basic rights of children in the youth justice system,” Nina Springle said.

“The Andrews government have created the same conditions which led to the abuses at Don Dale in the Northern Territory.

“The government needs to remove children from Barwon Prison immediately,” she said.
