The Victorian Greens have said a big build of public housing is key to solving the state's homelessness crisis, following VAGO's report into Victoria's homelessness response.
Despite the state government stating that assertive outreach activities will "guarantee a pathway to long-term housing and personal stability", the Auditor-General has found that the large majority of Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Action Plan clients supported by assertive outreach teams have not found stable accommodation.

"Victoria spends far less than the national average on social housing.
"A homelessness action plan, without a big build of new public housing, is a plan to fail.
"As stated in the Auditor-General's report, ‘there is not enough social housing for the number of people who are homeless and sleeping rough in Victoria’.
"The Greens are calling on the government to build 10,000 new public housing homes a year as a central plank of its economic recovery plan to help end homelessness and create jobs."
