Greens want ramp land remediated during Western Distributor construction

2016-08-18

Question in parliament - My question is for the Minister for Roads and Road Safety. The government has now released its western distributor reference design. This shows a proposed
route for truck off-ramps to Hyde Street in Yarraville.

On the southern side of the freeway the proposed truck ramp would run through vacant industrial land bordered by Hall Street, Simcock Avenue, Stephen Street and the West Gate Freeway in Spotswood. My understanding is that this piece of land is rife with contaminants.

My question for the minister is: if truck off-ramps go ahead in this location, will the government be fully remediating the entire industrial site to decontaminate it ahead of ramp construction, and what does the government intend to do with the land when the project is complete?
