Northern Metropolitan Region

Mr BARBER (Northern Metropolitan) — My constituency question is for the Minister for Education. Residents of North Melbourne have expressed concern that several established trees at North Melbourne Primary School are being removed as a result of classroom works, with no obvious plan to re-house them elsewhere. These trees are much loved by the school community and local residents. They provide much-needed play space, shade and amenity to North Melbourne Primary School. Can the minister advise me as to why these trees are being cut down and what plans the Department of Education and Training has to not lose play space, shade and amenity at the primary school and surrounding areas?
