Poor Process Deepens in the Public Housing Sell-Off

2018-06-21

Lidia Thorpe - Speech in Parliament: My constituency question is for the Minister for Housing, Disability and Ageing. Is the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) approaching developers to take in public housing residents from the renewal program sites, and if so, are these developers going to be given preferential treatment in tender processes?

Residents at the Walker Street public housing estate in Northcote have been informally advised that the DHHS relocation team has run out of options for local relocations and is now approaching developers with projects in neighbouring suburbs to take in public housing residents in their new developments. Residents remain concerned that local relocations will not be possible and that they will be forced out of communities they have lived in for many years.
