Prioritise Brimbank Park Asbestos Removal

2016-09-13

Question in parliament: My question is for the Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change. It has come to my attention due to community concerns that asbestos sheeting was discovered in Brimbank Park in December last year.

Parks Victoria acted to fence off the area but has failed to clean it up in the past eight months. While I respect that they are consulting with the Indigenous community regarding this issue due to the area being a site of significance, it should not have taken eight months. This is far too long for this material to be left out in the open and too long for the community to be cut off from this parkland.

My question for the minister is: why has it taken Parks Victoria so long to act on this issue, and when will the remediation activity take place?
