Report publicly on Fire Services Review

2016-05-03

Question in parliament: My question is for the Minister for Small Business, Innovation and Trade on behalf of the Minister for Emergency Services. Recently volunteer and careerfirefighters have approached me regarding the fire services review. It is their concern that the recommendations to address toxic workplace culture in the Country Fire Authority (CFA) and Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB) are not being taken seriously by senior management and the government. My question to the government is: will it commit to reporting publicly on the implementation of the recommendations of the fire services review at the 12-month mark, which will be October this year, so that the community and firefighters can feel assured that the culture within MFB and CFA will change and will not pose a risk to the provision of this essential service or the wellbeing of volunteer and career firefighters?
