TAFE for all Victorians

2018-07-26

The Victorian Greens will launch their election policy to guarantee a minimum of 70 percent VET funding for public TAFE providers at this weekend’s Australian Education Union State Conference.

The policy will reverse Labor’s disastrous privatisation of the sector which led to Victorian students being ripped off by alternative providers.

Quotes attributable to Victorian Greens spokesperson for TAFE, Lidia Thorpe.

“While The Greens welcome Labor’s promise of providing some free TAFE courses, this does not fix the fundamental structural problems caused by Labor’s privatisation of the sector.

“Under Daniel Andrews, VET in Victoria continues to receive the lowest level of funding compared to every other state and the highest amount of public funds flow to private providers instead of TAFE. Course fees are up and the standard of education has suffered.

“TAFE in Victoria needs fundamental change, and it starts by securing a level of funding that will restore it to the public provider of quality, accessible education it was designed to be.”
