LGBTQIA+ Equality
No one should have to fear for their safety because of who they are, or for loving who they love.
Yet queer and trans rights are under attack, gay and bi+ men are being attacked in public spaces, and the far-right are increasingly emboldened in spreading this hate.
The LGBTQIA+ community is strong, and the Greens will continue to throw their support behind our rainbow community members as we both celebrate and protect pride and diversity in our state.
Explore our plan for LGBTQIA+ Equality
- Stop the spread of anti-LGBTQIA+ hate online and in public spaces
-
The Greens want stricter regulation of social media companies to prevent the spread of hateful content targeting LGBTQIA+ people and other marginalised groups, and regulation of dating platforms to prevent tech-faciliated hate and violence.
We want to see healthier versions of masculinity promoted online and more done to prevent radicalisation of young men. We need to get to the root of this, which is why the Greens established an Inquiry into Anti-LGBTQIA+ Hate Crimes in Victoria.
- Remove barriers to gender affirming care
-
The Greens want to improve access to gender-affirming healthcare for trans and gender-diverse people to improve waitlists and ensure people receive care in a timely way.
We also want more funding for support organisations for trans and gender diverse young people.
- More LGBTQIA+ community services
-
The Greens will push for more funding for community controlled organisations that support young people, healthcare, and mental health and fight homelessness within the LGBTQIA+ community.
We also want more support for LGBTQIA+ people who have experienced conversion practices and improved access to state-run, free sexual health care for LGBTQIA+ people.
- Celebrate Pride
-
The Greens want to see long-term funding for Pride and community celebrations, and LGBTQIA+ community events and festivals across the state.
