WE need an inquiry into ai in western australia.
The rapid development of artificial intelligence over recent years has brought us to a crossroads – one from which there is no going back.
AI presents one of the most significant social, environmental and economic challenges – as well as unprecedented opportunities – to our civilisation since the Industrial Revolution.
But our laws are not keeping pace with the incredible growth of AI. Powerful overseas tech companies are quickly embedding it into every part of our lives with minimal oversight, impacting everything from the labour market and healthcare to our environment and energy security.
Left unchecked, the risks AI poses to the way our society functions – and our future as a whole – could be catastrophic.
And while the Cook Labor Government has announced some AI-related initiatives in WA, they aren’t nearly enough in the face of what is quickly becoming one of the defining issues of our time.
We need a clear, coordinated, evidence-driven roadmap for the future of AI in WA: how we use it, how we regulate it, and how we leverage it for the good of people and planet.
That’s why the Greens (WA) are calling on the Cook Labor Government to support an urgent parliamentary inquiry into AI and the policy that governs it.
We need to get this right before AI gets the better of us. Add your name to the call for an AI inquiry in WA!
