The Greens are introducing a Bill to ban forest mining in WA.
In 2021, WA finally committed to end logging of native forests, with the Premier at the time acknowledging their profound values and need for them to be protected.
But still nothing has been done to curtail the clearing of approximately 1000ha of native forests every year for mining.
As if this isn’t bad enough, new applications are coming thick and fast, with vast areas of the forest covered in exploration and mining applications.
We’ve had enough. It’s insanity.
It’s time to ban mining in native forests.
Why it matters
- Forests can't be put back. Once a forest is mined, a healthy, ancient, intact ecosystem can't be restored.
- Native forests are vital for wildlife, biodiversity, climate, culture and communities.
- Most of WA's forests and woodlands have been cleared for agriculture, urban development and industry. What's left must be protected.
