If we are to grow our movement and political influence then I think its vital that we not only record but also know our history. Former Australian Greens leader, Christine Milne, has made a wonderful contribution to the annals of Greens history in her just released book 'An Activist Life published by the University of Queensland Press. The book is deeply personal – tracing Christines roots, her 'bloods country, in the wilds of north western Tasmania and using the stories of various object to add poignancy and expression to each chapter. The book is also a thorough documentation of the campaigns and the environmental and political activism that Christine has been a huge part of. Its also a timely reminder of the huge issues that have shaped Australian politics over recent times. First-hand accounts of the carbon pricing wars; the forest wars; the gun law reform after the Port Arthur massacre; the Franklin blockade; pioneering the Global Greens and our principled stance on asylum seekers.

This is just a taster as Christine will be in Perth from 18th to 20th February to talk about her book.  Christine will sign your copy of her book, which can be purchased from our co-host for Christines event: Boffins Books, 88 William Street, Perth: Boffins Books  (Boffins have been warned that Greens customers may be on their way and assure us of a good supply)

Christines book is also available online, e.g. from Booktopia

You should get it, read it and share it – especially if you want to inspired, informed, to know where youre coming from and on whose shoulders we stand.
